Carlos Fernandez was born in Havana, Cuba and came to the United States at the age of 5. Watching his immigrant parents and family struggle to make a living he gained valuable knowledge learning that hard works does pay off. Traits such as persistance, determination, family values, and the importance of education were instilled into him through his parents. He spent 13 years in the Miami Dade County K-12 public schools system. His senior year in High School he was recognized as a Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald Silver Knight Award nominee. The Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald Silver Knight Awards recognizes the region’s top high school seniors. Each nominee boasted a stellar academic record and a standout commitment to helping others. Carlos Fernandez later pursued his Bachelors in History and Masters in Education.
Carlos Fernandez has taught 8th grade American History, 10th grade World History, 11th grade Advanced Placement and Regular U.S. History, 12th grade Advanced Placement and Regular Macro Economics and Government. He is also currently the Instructional Technology Coordinator for Leon County Schools. He has a strong passion for education technology and is the founder of EdCamp Leon. He has been featured in presentations across the country and interviewed by organizations such as NPR, Tallahassee Democrat, Scholastic, Evernote, and Qwizdom. He is currently a DEN Star (Discovery Educator), and presents at schools and technology conferences all over the United States.
